Student Leadership & Service

Leadership at QHCC is practical: students build confidence by helping peers, supporting events, and completing service that strengthens the college community.

Student Ambassador Roles

Student ambassadors may help welcome new students, support orientation, answer basic campus questions, assist with events, and share student feedback with staff. Ambassador roles are designed to build communication and service skills.

Service Projects

Service projects may connect students with campus needs, community partners, school outreach, food or supply drives, tutoring support, cultural events, or environmental activities. Projects vary by term and student interest.

Leadership Skills

Students practice meeting planning, public speaking, listening, conflict management, follow-through, documentation, and working with people who have different schedules or priorities.

Recognition and Reflection

QHCC encourages students to document leadership and service experience for transfer applications, resumes, scholarship materials, and personal reflection. Recognition events may highlight consistent participation and meaningful contributions.

Getting Started

Students interested in leadership should attend student life events, ask about ambassador opportunities, join a group, or volunteer for a short event before committing to a larger responsibility.

Eligibility and Expectations

Leadership roles may require active enrollment, reliable communication, respectful conduct, and the ability to follow through on assigned responsibilities. Some roles may ask students to attend training or planning meetings.

Working With Staff Advisors

Student leaders work with staff advisors to confirm goals, meeting plans, publicity, room use, accessibility needs, and event procedures. Advisors support planning but expect students to take responsibility for communication and follow-through.

From Service to Resume

Students should keep a simple record of leadership roles, service hours, projects, skills used, and outcomes. These notes can support transfer essays, scholarship statements, resumes, interviews, and personal reflection.

Leadership Opportunities

Opportunities vary by term, but students can usually begin with a small role before taking on a larger responsibility.
