How Students Get Involved
Students may join interest groups, attend workshops, volunteer at events, or help plan campus activities. Because many QHCC students commute, activities are scheduled in predictable blocks around common class times when possible.
Types of Groups
Groups may form around transfer preparation, business, technology, health careers, English-language practice, culture, service, creative work, or wellness. New groups begin with student interest, a faculty or staff contact, and a basic plan for meetings.
Campus Events
Events may include welcome week, program fairs, transfer workshops, career panels, cultural celebrations, study sessions, guest speakers, and recognition events. Most events are open to all students unless space or program requirements apply.
Planning and Responsibility
Students who help organize activities learn communication, budgeting, scheduling, accessibility, and event follow-through. Staff advisors help students keep events safe, respectful, and aligned with college procedures.
Why Participation Matters
Students who connect with classmates and campus staff often find it easier to ask for help, stay informed, and see college as part of their weekly routine rather than only a set of classes.
Student Organization Expectations
Clubs and interest groups should have a clear purpose, regular communication, inclusive participation practices, and a staff or faculty contact. Groups are expected to follow college procedures for rooms, publicity, spending, guests, and accessibility.
Annual Activities Calendar
The activities calendar is built around the academic year. Fall focuses on welcome programs and belonging, spring emphasizes transfer and career preparation, and summer offers smaller planning sessions for students entering or returning to QHCC.
Starting a New Group
Students who want to start a group should identify interested classmates, draft a short purpose statement, choose a meeting pattern, and contact Student Life before advertising widely. Staff help confirm whether the idea should become a club, short-term project, workshop series, or informal interest group.
Common Student Activity Formats
Student Life uses different formats so students can participate even when schedules vary.
| Format | Typical Length | Best For |
