First-Time College Students
Students who are beginning college after high school or secondary school receive support with program selection, placement, orientation, college expectations, and first-term planning. Admissions may ask for school records or other information that helps advisors recommend an appropriate course load.
Adult and Returning Students
Adults returning to education may be balancing work, family, military experience, career change, or prior college attempts. Advisors help review previous coursework, update goals, and choose a pace that fits current responsibilities.
Transfer and Visiting Students
Students who have attended another college should provide available records so QHCC can review prerequisites, placement, and possible course overlap. Visiting students may take selected courses for transfer back to another institution but should confirm transferability with their home college.
Career and Certificate Students
Career-focused students may enter with a specific certificate goal or may want short-term courses that build workplace skills. Admissions and advising help students compare certificate length, course sequencing, and whether courses can also support longer academic plans.
International Applicants
International applicants may need additional review of academic records, English-language preparation, financial documents, and arrival planning. International Student Advising provides separate guidance after the general admissions inquiry or application begins.
Students Still Exploring
Students who are not ready to choose a major may begin with general education, English-language development, or career exploration conversations. Admissions can help students choose a temporary program interest so advising has a starting point.
High School and Community Partners
School counselors, community organizations, employers, and education partners may request general admissions information for groups. Student-specific records and application details remain between the college and the student unless proper permission is in place.
Changing Student Type
If a student selected the wrong student type, admissions should be contacted before registration. A correction may affect records needed, placement guidance, residency review, tuition planning, or international advising steps.
Student Type Planning Guide
Student type helps admissions understand what review may be needed before advising and registration.
